Welcome to 'NITES
'NITES was a music blog that covered local bands in Austin, Texas.
Local journalist and multimedia producer AJ Miranda launched this blog in the summer of 2008 with the goal of spotlighting the unsigned bands he loved but felt were invisible in the local entertainment media.
'NITES started as a YouTube account (youtube.com/nitesatx) and eventually became this blog. Show previews, concert photos and free mp3s soon followed.
In this blog's glory days, it was the subject of writeups in the local media, including features and interviews about 'NITES in the Daily Texan, Republic of Austin and Do512 Blog. Those glory days have since passed; 'NITES, the blog, was retired in 2011, but its intent and spirit lives on through social media.
At youtube.com/nitesatx, you can watch nearly 300 live concert videos of Austin bands, shot from July 2008 to September 2010.
'NITES is an Austin-based music blog that covers the local music scene in Central Texas. 'NITES started as a YouTube account called NitesATX on Fourth of July weekend, 2008. I'm a videographer by hobby and I wanted to showcase my concert videos online. In September 2008, I launched the blog 'NITES. The name is a play on words: short for "Austinites" but also a reference to the fact that this blog mostly deals with nightlife-related stuff. Why all-caps? I don't know; it just looks better to my eyes. 'NITES has been featured in The Daily Texan, Republic of Austin and the Do512 Blog.
My name is AJ Miranda, though some of you know me as Ajay Miranda. I strictly go by AJ nowadays. I produce videos for other publications, including Austin Vida and Red River Noise.
