Tonight: Sound and the Jury @ Antone's

sound and juryTonight is the final round of the Sound and the Jury contest. Five bands will perform at Antone's. One will be selected by the judges to play Austin City Limits fest this weekend. It started with more than a thousand bands registering in late July. After several rounds of voting and eliminations, the final five were selected two weeks ago. Now, they fight to the death! Well, not really, but it should still be exciting and controversial. The Steps won last year, despite the claims of audience members that T-Bird and the Breaks, as well as 60 Tigres, arguably put on a better show. Hmmm. Come find out who will win it all this year. By the way, the finalists each win $1,500 in cash and three-day ACL passes (so I won't feel too bad for the runners up).

Here are videos from your finalists...

If I were able to go...I'd be supporting Bright Light Social Hour. I'll be at ACL on Friday to see who gets up on stage.

As I expected The Bright Light Social Hour takes it. I felt that Mobley was going to give them a good run for their money and that Erin Austin had a good chance of winning over the crowd with her heart melting vintage voice. I have said this before and I will say it again, never underestimate the power of booty shakin' music. Congrats to all who made it to the finals and score on the goodies, right! Hopefully the Bright Light boys don't get to faded after their Beauty Bar show this evening so they can give us a fresh energetic show Friday morning. Those guys got to be super stoked!
