Tonight: Dignan @ Emo's

Dignan at EmosTonight, the Rio Grande Valley's indie heroes in Dignan swing through Emo's outdoor stage to play a bill with a handful of local and touring acts. Dignan's morose and shoegazey indie-pop sound and relentless touring schedule has garnered the band attention from national media outlets beyond their sleepy hometown of McAllen. Paste Magazine recently featured an unreleased Dignan song on a Paste CD sampler. This unsigned band is doing it the old-fashioned way. Rather than moving to a big city and waiting to get discovered, they're packing up a small van two or three times a year and going on tour for a month or two at a time. From late August until the end of October, the band will have played just shy of 40 shows, mostly throughout the South and East Coast. They've been doing this since 2007 and it seems to be paying off nicely in the band's infancy.

Be sure to get to Emo's in time for the first band, Austin's Noise Revival Orchestra. It's not just a cool name; this actually is an orchestra, with 11 members playing anything from piccolo to tuba to trombone. Still, it's the vocals and synths that form the core of the orchestra's sound. This is upbeat, lighthearted indie-pop that happens to be flushed out with lots of classical instruments. Other acts on the bill: Austin's One Hundred Flowers and touring bands Look Mexico and O'Brother.

Show starts at 9. Cover is $10; the show is all ages. Visit Dignan on MySpace here, and Noise Revival Orchestra here. Watch a live video of Dignan below.
