mp3 of the day: Brownout

Brownout promoNothing against electronica, but a band like Brownout shows us why the best dance music is still made by dudes with instruments... lots and lots of instruments. Brownout is the Latin-funk side project of the Grammy-nominated Grupo Fantasma, and they kick just as much booty as their main gig (if not more). A fiery horn section, infectious percussion, and dual psychedelic guitar attack ensure that you'll be shaking your tail feathers when you see them live.

Brownout is back with its second album, which officially drops on Tuesday. They play their CD release party at Mohawk on Saturday, and they play in San Antonio tonight. Don't miss it. These guys are excellent live. I say that having seen them play at a restaurant, a music festival, and a dingy Seventh Street club, all in the past few months.

Listen to the opening track from Brownout's new album Aguilas and Cobras below. It's called "Con el Cuete" and it's one of the rare Brownout songs to include vocals. You're hearing it here first. Read my review of the new album here.
