mp3 of the day: The Bright Light Social Hour

The Bright Light Social HourThe Bright Light Social Hour is one of those bands I never intentionally went to see. They were always the opening act for some great local pop-rock band, like Quiet Company or Fulton Read. But every time I saw them, I was always blown away. These guys have that rare ability to write catchy, concise pop songs and then jam out on them live for extended amounts of time. These guys are throwback. Not revivalists. I don't feel like they're trying to bring a specific genre back. It's more a certain work ethic and aesthetic that they're trying to bring back: the '70s album-rock notion that bands should sound accessible but not be afraid to go all out and jam at shows. Listen to the song "Back and Forth" below. And make sure to catch The Bright Light Social Hour as they open for Red Leaves tonight at the new venue The Independent (behind the Music Gym on Sixth, just east of I-35).
