Butthole Surfers at Stubb's on Halloween

Butthole Surfers logoButthole Surfers and Peaches are scheduled to play Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater on Halloween, the Statesman's Joe Gross is reporting. You can buy tickets here.

This is a fantastic bill, especially for fans of old-school weird Texas underground music. We can debate which city has the right to call the Surfers hometown antiheroes: San Antonio (the city that gave birth to the band) or Austin (the city that launched the band to national notoriety). Either way, they're pretty dang groovy.

If you haven't watched the Surfers' live DVD, Blind Eye Sees All, please do so. It features some awesome live footage and an entertaining interview with the band. I got it for a decent price at End of an Ear. You can also rent it at Vulcan Video.

The band is playing in its late '80s lineup again (see the video below). I love the tandem drummer setup. It just adds something different. The Diamond Center and Haunting Oboe Music are two Texas bands that currently utilize two drummers extremely well in live settings. Can't wait to see if any openers are added to the lineup.

Frontman Gibby Haynes has said in recent interviews that a new Surfers album is in the works. Yes! Visit the band on MySpace for current tour dates.
